Hi sweetie,
You are growing so quickly! You turned a year old on October 5th!!! Your birthday was on a Wednesday so we had you birthday party the weekend afterwards on Sunday October 9th.
I had been planning your birthday for months...your Dada though I was crazy! Finally, we decided together that the theme would be golfing... "Hole In One!" to be exact.
We sent invitations to all the families with kids near your age that we knew and almost everybody came to help celebrate little ole you!
Your Daddy set up a putt putt course in the back yard for you and we decorated in blue, white, gray and grass green! Every child who came got to make a golf visor with his or her name on it too.
All the food was golf themed...we had Fruit Par-faits, Chip-it-N-Dip, Club Sandwiches and Peanut-Putter and Jelly Sandwiches, In the Rough cups (veggies), Pond Water (blue jello with gummy fish) and of course cake and cupcakes!
Your Daddy's best friend Mr. Blake let us borrow his family's golf cart to take on rides in the pasture too!
The best part was your birthday outfit! You were too cute in your plaid Gatsby hat, golf t-shirt (that your KayKay made for you), khaki shorts with arglye socks and blue Chucks. You wore the entire outfit the whole time (except for during cake time)!
You loved having all your friends at your party. You are the friendliest little boy I've ever seen. You only got upset twice during the whole party. Once, you got upset when we grabbed your hands to keep you from grabbing the candle flame on your cake. Then, you got upset when you slammed your hand in your new toy computer. However, you recovered quickly each time and went on to have the best first birthday party ever!
You were the happiest little one year old in the world!
Love,
Momma
Thoughts and reflections written to our sweet little boy as he grows into a wonderful man!
December 2011
Hi honey,
Boy have we been busy lately! Between working in our big grown up world and spending every possible extra moment play, cuddling, discovering, feeding, bathing and chasing after you...not much extra time left for writing your letters. We've taken tons of pictures and a few short videos of you to keep up with all of your antics and accomplishments.
You are now almost 14 months old! I can hardly believe that your entire first year has come and gone already. You have learned so much in this short time. You are incredibly smart and your curosity is endless!
You learned how to crawl and quickly moved on to standing and then walking...now running! You hardly ever fall anymore!
You are beginning to learn how to climb up the stairs but going down is much scarier.
You can eat grown up foods (except no small hard foods like candy or nuts and no popcorn)...you even insist on feeding yourself almost all of the time!
You are using a fork but Momma or Dada have to load the fork with food for you...spoons are a little too messy right now though!
You have already mastered your sippy cups and you gave no fits whatsoever about saying bye bye to your bottle!
Your favorite foods are fruit, especially blueberries, mangos, bananas and strawberries. You also scream for American cheese slices! You eat almost everything we give you and your are doing great with your veggies too. I'm pretty sure your least favorite foods are beans and rice, you make the silliest faces when you eat theses...but sometimes you still eat a few spoonfuls willingly. You are a very good eater!
You know several "tricks" - you can wave "bye-bye", blow kissies, clap and high five!
If we are lucky enough you'll give a big, soggy, open mouth kissy right on the cheek (but if we aren't careful, you sink those little teeth right in too)! You've actually gotten notes sent home from day care for biting your friends
You are by far the best dancer I've ever seen! You love rock n roll and you kinda like Notorious BIG...don't look him up though...he doesn't sing very nice songs. However, your all time favorite song is the puppy song that your little fire truck toy sings to you. Whenever you hear its song you stop what you are doing a just break down and dance right then and there!
Your Dada and Momma are so proud of you!
Love,
Momma

Looking back: the first weeks
Hi there my little Pumpkin!
It's almost your first birthday and I just can't believe how you've grown into such a big boy from my teeny little baby boy! Everything has changed so quickly from the very first day you were here!
We brought you home on Friday, October 7th and boy was it a shock! You were so sweet driving home from the hospital...it was dark outside but I think you could see all of the street lights. You were so quiet and just looked and looked...bless your heart, it must have all been so strange to you! That night we were exhausted and so glad to be home finally, but you, you were not a happy camper. You cried and cried. Every time you made a peep we would pop up and try to figure out how to console you- NOTHING worked!
After about two days you finally settled in to a routine. You would nap and nurse and nap and nurse. Occasionally you'd just look at me with those little blue eyes and I'd wonder what color they'd end up. I could have spent hours just gazing at you...studying every little wrinkle in your little hands and the curve of your little nose...I'd never seen anything so perfect!
Your grandparents were all so excited to see you! Grandma Bell came and spent the whole first week of your little life with you. Everybody thought you were such a handsome little fellow.
The dogs were pretty interested in you also. Kane has always really liked you but Sue was a little bit hesitant. Boogie of course thought you were hers from the first second we walked in the door with you. She would guard you to keep the other dogs from coming near you. Every time you cried that first night she would jump across the bed and peek into your cradle...she was so sleepy the next morning she didn't even want to eat breakfast!
We had your pictures taken around 5 days old...you were wide awake the whole time! A few days later I took some more pictures of you when you were nice and sleepy...and of course, Boogie oversaw the entire process!
We took you to the pumpkin patch too. You were so itty bitty and you slept through the whole thing! Daddy picked out a perfect little pumpkin just for you!
The first few weeks were a pretty big adjustment for us, having a new little person in the house! It was such a great time in our lives...our lives which would never be the same!!!

I loved you before you were born
Hi Caleb!
Momma here to tell you a little bit about our family before you came along. It's hard to think of a life without you in it but there was a time when it was just you Dad & I (plus a lot of pets)!
Your Dad and I met in veterinary school at Mississippi State University. We both went to college there also and boy was it fun! We sure hope you enjoy college too and even though we would LOVE going to visit you in Starkville we'll be fans of your Alma mater wherever you end up!
We dated for a few years then got married right out of vet school on May 9, 2009.
We started working and found out we were going to have a baby (who turned out to be little old you) in February 2010!
We were really excited but a little nervous too when we found out you were on your way! All of your grandparents and your aunts were so happy to find out about you.
We all had to wait a long time to find out you were a little boy - we didn't find out until about 14 weeks later. Your Dad & I had a competition of who could guess whether you'd be a boy or a girl- Dad won! For some reason I just knew the doctor would tell us you were going to be a girl (I had even bought a bunch of little girly dresses for you).
We were soooo excited about you being a little boy but we had some trouble coming up with your name...we considered Andrew, Cooper, Wesley and Clayton...but in the end, Caleb was perfect just like you turned out to be! Your middle name, Robert, is from your Dad's dad's name and that was from his father's name. So you are named after your Grandfather and your Great Grandfather Fisher.
You were such a great pregnancy!
I hardly ever felt sick while carrying you, I did have to eat pretty often because I got hungry pretty quick...that should have been a tip off that you were a little boy. I did have a few pregnancy cravings...Strawberry Milkshakes and spicy Cheetos. I hated the smell of Buffalo wings and coffee grounds but I still made your Daddy coffee every morning before work.
We had pictures taken while I was pregnant with you. I still can't believe how big my belly was!
You were in no hurry to be born, that's for sure! You were due on October 1, 2010. You Grandma Bell came to visit for two whole weeks and you tried to make her miss your birth, I suppose you were just pretty comfy right where you were. The day you were due we went out to dinner and even walked around downtown to try to hurry you up- but you were a no-show. Two days later we joined our church and when Pastor Canterbury asked when you were due and heard our reply he was so surprised! Finally, when we went for a check up with my doctor he suggested that we induce- or make me go into labor. That night, your Daddy woke us up at about 11:00pm and we headed to the hospital. I had been having little cramps all night and I just thought you were a little wiggly...as it turned out, I was already in labor and didn't even know it!
They started us on medications a little after midnight and finally you were born at 5:18 in the evening on Wednesday October 5, 2010! The doctor said your umbilical cord was wrapped around your neck and he had to use a suction tool to get you out quickly (you had a funny little bump on you head for a while afterward from it)! You were 7 pounds and 14 ounces and 20 3/4 inches long with brownish blond hair and blue eyes. You were a very strong little baby and you were so hungry right away! Boy could you scream loud too! You were absolutely perfect. I was so surprised at how amazing being your mother felt and your father was so happy to hold you that he even cried a little bit. It was one of the best nights of our lives.
Love,
Momma

Hi Sweetheart!
I got this idea from a friend who writes letter to her little boy regularly on her blog. I thought it would be nice to do for you but in a little corner that is dedicated to just you and you alone. Maybe we'll do the same for your little brothers or sisters some day too!
I'm getting started a little late (you're about 9 1/2 months old now)! So, I think what I'll do is just start here and sprinkle in some of our memories of you from the earlier parts of you little life as we go. It won't be in order but as you'll soon find out...not much in life (especially in our house) follows much order!
I'm going to try to talk your Dad into writing to you some too as we go along but no promises! He isn't quite as mushy as Momma! (But we'll work on that won't we!)
You may be wondering why I called this the Sweet Potato Letters...
Well, even from before you were born we had some kinda strange nicknames for you...
When you were just a few weeks old I started calling you my little sweet potato, my little sweet pea, sweet peanut...the names just kept coming and sometimes got even weirder! The good news, Dad doesn't call you strange little nicknames like Momma so there is some hope for you after all!
