Looking back: the first few months

Hi sweetheart!

Those first few months seem forever ago!  I can still remember how you felt so tiny and curled up in our arms.  I can't believe it was so long ago.  You took over our lives as soon as you got home that's for sure!  I remember lying on the couch with you asleep on my chest, your little mouth open and round with your perfect little lips occasionally suckling the air in your sleep.  When you were sleeping you would occasionally startle and your little arms would go flying up in the air then come down slowly slowly while you slipped back into slumber.

You were very warm natured... we had to swaddle you in just a onesie, a diaper and socks with only one thin blanket wrapped around you.  A few times it was only the diaper and blanket!  You turned into a great sleeper by about 8 weeks old... you would sleep 6-8 hours straight at night...  we loved it!  You moved into your own room around 8 weeks old also, but we kept a close eye on you with your baby monitors.

You were one of the favorites at your day care.  You were always such a pleasant baby to be around... unless you were hungry!  You went from happy and smiles to screaming at full volume with about one minute of warning.  If you were given a bottle that wasn't the perfect temperature you would get even more upset!  You were always so particular about temperature (even later when you were getting baby food it had to be just right). But you were a great eater once we got it right for you!

Your first official holiday was Halloween, but you were obviously too young for trick-or-treating.  Instead, we had a few people come over to our house.  Reese was a pumpkin, Sydney was a little 50's girl and you were a gnome.  Daddy was so excited to make your first costume!

Next, was Thanksgiving.  We went to Arkansas to Grandmommy's house and your Aunt and Uncle Lisa and Jason were there with your cousins Justin and Rachel.  Rachel and Aunt Lisa were so excited to meet you... they both love babies, especially adorable ones like you!  Rachel wanted nothing to do except to hold you.  We rushed back to Alabama so you could meet your Uncle Drew for the first time.  The next day we went to the Christmas tree farm and cut down your first Christmas tree!  You met Santa but you were hungry and he didn't have a bottle for you so you cried a little bit.  You did so well though!  You really were a great baby to take on adventures... you always did so well in new situations.

In December we went to visit some of your Momma's friends from college in Mississippi.  Mr. Chris and Mrs. Stephanie had a little girl named Callie and she sure was interested in you!  You and mommy got to meet Mrs. Amber's new baby Hadley and Mrs. Leigh's new baby Lilly then too!  It was so much fun having all of our babies together for a visit!

You first Christmas was spent at our home.  It sure was quiet!  It was just the three of us, but it was a nice time and we had so much fun starting our new traditions in our brand new little family.  We couldn't wait to start more traditions with you!

Looking Back: 9 months

Hi there honey!

You just moved right along into summer that first year!  You've always been so hot natured though, and getting too warm still made you mad even when you were nine months old.  Your daddy took you into the swimming pool to cool you off... I was so nervous that you were going to tip over and go under water!  You took to water like a little fish though!  You really enjoyed it once you got used to it!  You would cry a little at the beginning the first few times but then you loved it.  You even had a little baby life vest- I think that may have been why you cried however!

August 6th was Mommy's birthday so we went to the local Mariott and stayed for the weekend.  You loved the pool there and you would even "jump" in for us to catch you!  It was so cute to see you perched on the edge then lean hesitantly forward until you just tipped right over into our arms... you were so brave and then you would just laugh and laugh!

This summer you also took your first trip to the beach with your Grandparents, Aunt Jennifer and Uncle Drew, Hailey and baby Chandler and Daddy.  (Mommy had to stay home to work unfortunately).  Daddy said you really like the beach!  You even sat on a boogie board!  Mommy had never been away from you that long.  I missed you so much!

Your Granddaddy Bell drove you and Mommy all the way to Wisconsin in August to visit your Aunt Lisa, Uncle Jason and your cousins Justin and Rachel.  It took us a long time to get there- about 14 hours!  Your cousins had so much fun playing with you but I remember you getting so mad when Rachel would try to pick you up and hold you!  Your independent side was really starting to show around nine months old already.  You took your first trip to the zoo while we were there... although the only thing I remember you paying much attention to was the jelly fish!

When you were about 10 months old you started walking!  You took your first step in Franklin, Tennessee at your great-uncle Mark and great-aunt Amy's house!  Of course, we didn't get it on video but it was so exciting!  Before long you were walking (very tentatively) all over!

In September we started planning for your first birthday party!  More on that to come!

Love,
Momma

Looking Back: 6 Months

On April 5th you were  6 months old and my heavens how you had grown already!  By this time you had already gotten a few teeth!  You were sitting up on your own too... you were very proud of yourself... and so were we!  You had started to stand up while holding on tight to things, like the couch or our hands.  Your little chubby legs were getting stronger and stronger each day.

You celebrated your first Easter that year.  Momma made you a little John-John in blue and yellow plaid fabric and your KayKay put a little yellow chicken on the front.  You were adorable!  Your little Easter basket had a few treats, a sippy cup for a few months later, a set of stacking balls and a few other things too.  You really hadn't begun to eat foods much yet so no chocolate Easter bunnies in your basket!

Around six months you had completely given up nursing...  I was so sad.  I really enjoyed cuddling with you and felt so important to you when you nursed.  I can still remember holding your wiggly little body those first few months while you nursed greedily... like a little piglet!  You would start to fall asleep while eating the wake up suddenly so mad and start eating like crazy again!  If you ever ran out of milk you would start shaking your little head, grunting and start punching me with your little balled up fists!  You were so funny!  You have always been a very enthusiastic eater... whether it was nursing, a bottle or actual food.

Speaking of food, you have finally started eating a little bit of baby mush food!  We started introducing tiny bits of baby rice, different pureed fruits and veggies when you were around four months old.  You were NOT a fan of any of it for about two months.  It didn't matter what it was, if we gave you anything other than a bottle you would swqunch your nose up and make the funniest little faces!   We took tons of pictures of you with food smeared all over and right in the middle of your "yucky" faces.  Those pictures still make me laugh!  Finally, you decided that you liked mangoes!  Then you liked bananas and pears too.  You were a little slower to like peaches for some reason.  You were never a big fan of carrots... you even likes squash, green beans and peas more than carrots.  Even now (at 26 months old) you only like raw carrots.

Around eight months old you were crawling like a champ.  You were so fast too!  Our little jack russell terrier, Boogie, went from guarding and protecting you to running as soon as you got near her.  She was so frightened of you... you must have grabbed and pulled her hair!  In fact, all of the dogs except for Kane were pretty leery of you.  You still really liked Sue though.  You would chase him all over the house in your little walker!

You were such a fun little baby.  We very much enjoyed each new adventure with you... and you made the most little things into adventures for us!

love you,
Momma

Looking Back: 3 Months

Hi Baby!

Wow, it seems like years ago that you were 3 months old!  January 5th, 2011 was 3 months exactly since you came into our lives.     Boy did you grow a lot in those three little months!

At Three Months: You are smiling and cooing at your Momma (and everybody else- you are very friendly)!  You can hold your head up on your own really well by now and you'll even push a little bit with your legs if we hold you up instanding position.  Daddy likes to prop you up on the couch with him so you can watch tv together and you are pretty content with this little routine.

You had your first big snow right here in Alabama!  It was probably only about 6 inches or so and you and I were both sick but we tried to make the most of it.  Daddy got you all bundled up in your snow suit and we took you outside to enjoy it.  You didn't seem too impressed and by the time we started taking pictures you were upset!

You also had your very first experience getting hay for the horse.  You were super cute in your blue jeans, boots and flannel shirt...we took some pictures of you and you just smiled and smiled!  You are quite a ham!

In Feburary, we took our first big road trip to Snowshoe, West Virgnia.  Daddy was exhausted by the time we got there (you were not the best traveler)!  Momma and Daddy hit the slopes while you charmed all the ladies in the day care there!  We'd pick you up in the afternoons after a looong day of skiing and we'd all head out for supper.  You were quite the handsome little mountain man.

You had your first Valentine's day party too!  You went to our friends' the Borden's house.  They have a little boy Carson who was born the summer before you were.  You were quite the handsome little devil in your light blue striped pants and heart-tie onesie!

In March, right around St. Patrick's Day, you had your first serious illness... RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).  You had fever and horrible coughing, so bad that you could hardly sleep for coughing so hard.  You almost had to go to the hospital because your lungs were having such a hard time getting enough oxygen for your blood to carry!  You were a very strong little baby though and you pulled through.  We did breathing treatments with a nebulizer... you did not enjoy having the tube held up to your face.  Boy did you get mad!  You have always been a very determined little guy!
